t’s an epic Christmas single, complete with a guitar solo and festive sweaters, that is bringing genuine heart back to the Christmas Number One race.

Lt Cdr Dave Emery and Lt Cdr Phil Clark and their band Little Red Ambulance, have officially broke into the Top 20 of the Official UK Singles Download Charts with their heartwarming holiday hit Sailing Home For Christmas.

Written last year during Operation FORTIS whilst on board HMS Queen Elizabeth with 820 Naval Air Squadron, Sailing Home for Christmas is an earnest anthem with a catchy hook that conveys the magical feeling thousands of our serving Royal Navy personnel experience as they make their way back home after a long deployment.

The single, now hot on the heels of Mariah, will benefit the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) and the Culdrose Military Wives Choir.

Originally from South Wales and Portsmouth, the Helston-based pair worked with Culdrose Military Wives Choir to record the Christmas song after returning from a 7-month deployment to the Far East.

Lt Cdr Dave Emery says,

“The idea for the song came from the building sense of excitement amongst all of us onboard HMS Queen Elizabeth as we got closer to home and seeing our families at Christmas time. It is such a special moment for each of us as we see our loved ones after so much time away, and I wanted the song to try and encapsulate that feeling.”
