Try London’s first gourmet SPAM burger

The thing Londoners never knew they were missing, a Hawaiian SPAM burger, is now proudly presented by family-run street food business Huli Huli and available exclusively at Canteen Food Hall & Bar, Greenwich Peninsula.

It’s the brainchild of husband-and-wife team Igor and Ann, hospitality maestros, who founded Huli Huli Hawaiian Street Food in 2019. Canteen Food Hall & Bar is their first permanent home, and the only place in the UK to experience their unique dishes and buy their own delicious sauces.

Hawaii is the world’s biggest importer of SPAM, the tinned pork having become a household favourite post World War II. Despite its divisive reputation around the world, Hawaii consumes 7 million cans of SPAM a year (and there are just 1.4 million residents on the islands). It was a no-brainer, therefore, for Igor and Ann to put it on their menu:

“We love SPAM! We couldn’t offer an authentic taste of Hawaii without including SPAM in the menu. SPAM is an iconic and much-loved traditional food for the Hawaiian people with generations of families putting their spin on it. This is the Huli Huli spin: our burger takes this infamous ‘luncheon meat’ and turns it into something extraordinary, with all the lip-smacking flavours of the islands wrapped up in a deliciously soft bun. You really have to taste it to believe it!”

Huli Huli and are the newest vendors to join Canteen Food Hall & Bar. Located in the Design District on Greenwich Peninsula, the independent street food market houses six international street food vendors, craft beer, cocktails, coffee, weekly DJs, live sport screenings and more.

It also houses a buzzing bar and plant-filled terrace, just 30-seconds walk from North Greenwich station and the 02 arena.
