The annual Alternative Provision Awards, which celebrate the efforts and achievements of pupils who study alternative education in practical environments, took place on Thursday 17 May. Parents/carers, school staff and alternative provision providers were present to celebrate the students’ success.

15 year old Fathiya Mohamed from Romford was named ‘Most improved’ student and 16 year old Cynthia Adebayo from Rainham was named Best Student and Overall Award Winner.

When Fathiya arrived at Young College she was very shy and lacked self-confidence. However, in the 3 months that she has been at the college her confidence has grown enormously. Fathiya works very hard to ensure she achieves the best results she can and is hoping to do well in her GCSEs.

Cynthia, who was nominated by her teachers at Barking & Dagenham College has been an inspiration to fellow students and is predicted to get straight A*s in her GCSEs this summer. Her teachers describe her as ‘conscientious, hardworking, polite and an absolute joy to teach’.
