Union Chapel launches week of “Winter Warmer” Christmas events

Union Chapel in Islington has announced a week of festive “Winter Warmer” events, running from 3rd-9th December, with family-friendly screenings, disco yoga, a cockney singalong and a Christmas market.

Once a vital hub for the community, the Sunday School Hall at Union Chapel is in need of urgent repairs so that it can once again become a regularly enjoyed space for arts and culture. All proceeds from the “Winter Warmer” events will go towards the crowdfunding campaign to save the Sunday School Hall.  

3rd-7th December, Doors 10am – Baby Cinema in the Sunday School Hall

Prices: £5 adults, £3 children, free for aged 2 and under

These family-friendly Christmas screenings will include: The Muppet Christmas Carol, White Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hugo and Home Alone. There’ll be plenty of space for buggies, and refreshments available from the café.

4th December, Doors 6.45pm  – Christmas Cockney Singalong in the Sunday School Hall, £5

Gather round the piano as Tom Carradine leads one hundred people in a vintage singalong of East End classics and Christmas favourites, including; Santa Claus Is Coming to Town, It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney, Last Christmas, The Twelve Days of Christmas and many more. Song sheets will be provided, just bring your festive enthusiasm for this quaint evening of camaraderie and carols.

5th December, 7pm – Disco Yoga in the Sunday School Hall, £15

This fun one-hour yoga class, suitable for all-abilities and ages, will be set the backdrop of a DJ spinning hits from the 70’s. Tickets include access to the glitter station for some disco-prep and an after class cocktail (or mocktail) with healthy bites available from £5 at Margins Café.  

9th December, 1pm-6pm – Christmas Market in the Sunday School Hall, FREE  

Harking back to Victorian times when the Sunday School was regularly used for bazaars, Union Chapel‘s Christmas Market will feature stalls from local artists and makers plus mulled wine for the adults, and a Santa’s grotto for the kids.

9th December, 2pm & 4pm – The Snowman screening in the Chapel, FREE

A free screening of this children’s classic will be made even more magical by East London Brass who will perform the iconic soundtrack live. There’ll be mince pies aplenty and mulled wine for the adults.

9th December, 6pm – It’s a Wonderful Life screening in the Chapel, £12.50 for adults

The ultimate Christmas film, It’s A Wonderful Life, will screen in a candlelit Union Chapel, bedecked in festive decor. All tickets include a free mince pie, with mulled wine and hot chocolate available.
