Graduates from the (BA) Hons Advertising and Public Relations programme at the London School of Film, Media and Design at the University of West London (UWL) launched their community engagment project, WE Grow, on 24 September as part of Ealing Climate Week.

In autumn of 2025, Azelys Moellec, Alexandria Dudziuk, Iyesha Gayle and Lorenzo Di Bene Rufini pitched their concept for a brand campaign for West Ealing to an array of community leaders, real estate developers, and local businesses as a part of their final year Agency module. Because the students’ concept was so well received by the various stakeholders, the BA (Hons) Advertising & Public Relations Course Leader, Kristin Brewe, successfully applied for a Knowledge Exchange Seed Fund grant to fund the project’s launch.

Something positive and tangible

The initial WE Grow launch event saw students and local volunteers from West Ealing social enterprise, Mahaba Café, distribute hundreds of flowering plants to members of the West Ealing community. Local residents received flowering plants for their window boxes and communal outdoor spaces; local businesses and cultural institutions received larger quantities to green up their public spaces.

Kristin Brewe stated:

“The genius behind the students’ WE Grow concept is to create a brand through something positive and tangible – like flowering plants. Empowering people to beautify their own neighbourhood is a really meaningful way to spark more improvements. The students and I were thrilled that this was one of UWL’s Knowledge Exchange Seed Fund initiatives, since the project so clearly seeds positivity in our community.”

Alex Dudziuk, one of the students who contributed to the concept and volunteered on the day stated:

“It’s so nice to see WE Grow come to life. I hope this helps the community come together and livens up people’s physical spaces. I loved the event because I love the diversity of West Ealing. There’s a lot to celebrate here.”

The project is envisioned as a multi-phased initiative to beautify West Ealing from the ground up – literally. Some new community gardens will now form as a result of the WE Grow launch, and the graduates hope to see some of their longer-term ideas for street art and other physical enhancements blossom.
