UWL alumna Yara Fabricante has secured her West End debut, joining the 20th anniversary cast of the critically acclaimed musical ‘Wicked’ as principal character Nessarose at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre from 19 May.
Raised in Qatar, Yara moved to London in 2022 to pursue her passion for musical theatre, enrolling on the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course at UWL’s London College of Music (LCM), graduating last summer.
From student showcase to principal role
During her final year at LCM, Yara appeared in Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Anyone Can Whistle’ and ‘Nine’. After gaining acting representation from Keddie Scott Associates at the College’s showcase, she successfully navigated a highly competitive audition process to secure her role in ‘Wicked’.
Yara shares how her studies helped her grow as a performer:
“The course gets you out of your comfort zone in the best way possible. It opens you up to things you never thought you could do. You explore things about yourself that you take into future performances and auditions.
“The staff here are very supportive and always ready to help and guide you. That helped me the most when it came to building my career path to where I am now. I’m still able to reach out to them whenever I need help.”
Offering advice to aspiring performers, she adds:
“Believe in yourself. Keep going. The more auditions you do the better.”
Course Leader for BA (Hons) Musical Theatre Gillan Ford said:
“It is incredibly rare for a graduate’s first professional role to be a principal part in the West End. Wicked is a hugely successful show and is very hot right now following the release of the two films. Yara was a fantastic student throughout her time at the College, and we are immensely proud of her.”
Yara’s success marks another standout achievement for UWL graduates making their mark on the global stage.
