Veolia Southwark’s Recycling Crew 3 has won Collection Crew of the year at the Lets Recycle 2022 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, for championing recycling and their dedication to service delivery.

On May 18, Veolia’s Southwark collection crew, Recycling 3, attended the Lets Recycle Awards for Excellence at the Landmark Hotel in London, and were incredibly proud to receive the Collection Crew of the Year award. Veolia is delighted to see its teams being recognised for their outstanding dedication to delivering a consistent service and passion for the incredible work they do together.

The members that make up Recycling 3 are: Akintunde Abisogun, Sherman Dixon, Stephen Kedziora, Abdulahi Hussein and Raymond Whyte, who gallantly came back from retirement to drive with Veolia again. Stephen and Sherman have also been working together for over 15 years which is indicative of how well they work together and a sign of a joint dedication for what they do.

One of Veolia’s vital roles in Southwark, working in partnership with Southwark Council, is running a comprehensive communal recycling waste management service, which includes collection from communal recycling bins, as well as a door to door bag collection across most Southwark Council Housing estates. It can be an incredibly challenging service to deliver.

Despite this, Recycling 3 always manage their role with a smile on their face, and show genuine pride in delivering their essential duties. This is particularly evident in their impressive missed collections performance and their demonstrable passion for improving services. As the face of recycling for many residents they understand the importance of the role they play in improving recycling and most recently were involved in the delivery of the Great Estates project to help deliver real change across Southwark.

Adissa Ouedraogo, Senior Contract Manager for Southwark at Veolia said:

“Over the many years that Recycling 3 have worked together, they have always gone above and beyond to ensure their task is completed to the best of their ability. It is because of this that they can be relied upon to provide a consistently high level of service, evident in their exceptionally low missed collection figures. This is why it is no surprise that they have won the award and we are extremely proud of our team.”

“Cllr Catherine Rose, Cabinet Member for Streets, Parks and Clean Air, said: “We are delighted that the hard work and dedication of Akintunde, Sherman, Stephen, Abdulahi and Raymond has been recognised and celebrated with this prestigious award. Their contribution was central to the success of our Great Estates programme, which saw an improvement in waste infrastructure on trial estates, with more recycling happening as a direct result.”
