Veolia, the UK’s leading resource management company, is launching this year’s Sustainability Fund, in partnership with the South London Waste Partnership (SLWP) to help support people across the SLWP region to transform their local environments and communities.

2022 was an incredibly successful year for the Sustainability Fund, supporting 10 grassroots projects across the South London Waste Partnership areas of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton with over £3,000 in funding. All of these projects made a positive, sustainable difference to the local area and delivered long-term social and environmental benefits.

With funding as well as in-kind resources and volunteers available, Veolia aims to empower people to take positive action in their local area and deliver ecological transformation.

Projects are encouraged to apply at veolia.co.uk/Sustainability-Fund.

Applications are now open until 29 September 2023 and are welcomed from any grassroots non-profit organisation, community group or individual in the borough with a plan to make their community greener, cleaner and more sustainable.

If you’re unsure whether your project fits the criteria, here are some examples of previous projects that were successful in 2022:

In Croydon, Downsview Primary School received funding to help them regenerate unused land and turn it into a sustainable garden for the school.

In Kingston, Community Brain gained funding to plant a strawberry wall at Tolworth Station to enhance biodiversity and bring the community together.

In Merton, Mitcham Football Club organised litter picking after home matches and introduced a cup reuse scheme to encourage recycling.

In Sutton, Cheam Common Junior School received funding to set up a wild garden with bee friendly plants, bird feeders and recycled wooden benches.

Veolia’s Sustainability Fund is open to not-for-profit organisations, community groups or individuals in areas where the company partners with the local authority to deliver waste and cleansing services for the community.

Applications can be made until Friday 29th September 2023 via Veolia’s website veolia.co.uk/Sustainability-Fund or via Spacehive spacehive.com/movement/veoliauk, Veolia’s crowdfunding partner.

Keep an eye out on Facebook and Twitter @VeoliaUK to discover other projects that may inspire you or that you can get involved with in your local community.

All applications will be considered, but projects should aim to fulfil at least one of the following criteria; enhancing biodiversity, promoting sustainable behaviours (reduce, reuse and/or recycle), protecting or preserving resources and the environment and using recycled, reused or reclaimed materials.

Pascal Hauret, Managing Director, Municipal at Veolia said:

“Funding 10 local projects through the Sustainability Fund was one of the South London Waste Partnership’s (SLWP) great successes of 2022 and we’re so thrilled to continue its important work in 2023. As we work towards ecological transformation in collaboration with the SLWP boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton, we can’t wait to see the inspiring and innovative ideas of our applicants.”
