The retailer today launches a selection of matching bikes for parents, teens and little ones based on Victoria Pendleton’s best-selling adult Pendleton Somerby.
Like its adult counterpart, the Pendleton Somerby Balance Bike comes in a mint green design and boasts a brown leather style saddle, handlebars and wicker basket. The balance bike has been designed with geometry for younger riders and includes smaller grips and handlebars for little hands, 12 inch wheels and a lightweight alloy frame. It is suitable for two to four year olds.
For teens, aged between eight and 11 years old, there is a junior version of the Pendleton Somerby in a 24 inch frame, which retails at £180. It boasts six gears and a kickstand.
The collection means that all the family can ride out together on matching bikes, making for a fun and playful summer.
The twinning trend in bikes comes as research by Halfords reveals that more than one in ten (12%) of British families with kids 12 years and under have at least one family member who doesn’t know how to ride a bike, amid fears that many are missing out on the chance to take up this fun and essential life skill.
Victoria Pendleton says: “These bikes are designed for kids and adults to try and give them the best cycling experience, so they can get the feeling I had when I first got on a bike. The best thing is that we’ve designed a bike for every ability – from a balance bike for toddlers taking their first ride, to a classic bike for teens and adults.
