Wetherby Senior School are this week celebrating two of their students Alexei Miroshnichenko (Year 9) and Edward Piazza (Year 11) who made it to the final of the ISA Young Musician Competition 2021, for Middle Category and Senior Category, respectively.

The ISA Young Musician Competition is an opportunity to celebrate the talent and passion within member schools for classical music and this year the competition went online, with students required to submit a video to the adjudicators.

Alexei and Edward’s video performances showed real skill, passion and understanding of their selected pieces and the assessment of the adjudicators was extremely positive. Everyone at Wetherby Senior is incredibly proud of these talented young musicians and their achievements in the competition.

Music is a vibrant part of life at Wetherby Senior School and the boys are encouraged to develop their individual talents and interests. The music department offers a wide range of musical tuition and ensembles including brass band, cello ensemble, guitar ensemble, jazz ensemble and rock school and holds numerous recitals and performances throughout the school year.

All music lessons continued during remote learning and the music department hosted its annual spring concert earlier this week which can be viewed on the school’s YouTube channel.
