Team members at wilko Stratford have partnered with Cornerstone Church’s Holiday Hunger project to provide 18 local families experiencing in-work poverty with packages of essential and celebratory products that aim to make the festive season a little easier.
The church’s Holiday Hunger campaign runs each year to support school pupils and their families who sadly experience food insecurity and other serious financial constraints during the Christmas holidays; often, parents are forced to skip meals or make other tough decisions in order to ensure their children are fed and properly cared for.
The wilko team in Stratford has provided a mix of essential items, such as nappies and household products like detergent, toilet roll and anti-bac, to make life a little easier – as well as toys and decorations to ensure families on extremely tight budgets are able to enjoy a little Christmas magic this holiday season.
Jerome Saint-Marc, wilko CEO, said: “We’re incredibly proud of and thankful to our team members across the entire business, who have done a phenomenal job in ensuring families have access to the products they need. The support our Straford team are providing to the Cornerstone Church’s Holiday Hunger project is just one example of how our brilliant team members nationwide are going the extra mile to help their local communities during these difficult times – and we truly appreciate their efforts and the difference they make.”
This donation is one of many projects wilko has undertaken to support communities throughout the Covid-19 crisis. Other activities include launching a community fund, donating tens of thousands of products to families in need and NHS staff across the UK and enabling members of its Workshop support centre to volunteer for a helpline for elderly people who may feel isolated.
