Young carers from across the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham will take centre stage on Friday 31 July, celebrating their creativity at a special summer showcase hosted by creative arts charity Create in partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Council supported by John Lyon’s Charity.
The event will bring together young carers, their families, friends and supporters to celebrate the achievements of the young people who have taken part in Create’s inspired:arts programme throughout the year.
Audiences will enjoy an inspiring display of animation, dance, performance and puppet-making, showcasing the creativity, imagination and talent of the young carers involved.
The showcase marks the culmination of months of creative workshops led by Create’s professional artists, providing young carers with a chance to express themselves, develop new skills and spend time with others who understand the challenges they face.
Young carers often balance their education and social lives alongside significant caring responsibilities for a family member. Many young carers have little time for themselves, making opportunities to relax, be creative and connect with peers especially important. Action for Children and Carers Trust found that eight out of ten young carers feel lonely during summer holidays.
Through Create’s workshops, participants explore different artforms in a supportive environment where every idea is valued. Along the way they build confidence, develop communication and teamwork skills, and improve their wellbeing, while having the chance to enjoy being creative.
The showcase gives the young carers the opportunity to share what they have created, with family members, friends and the wider community, celebrating not only the artwork and performances themselves but their dedication, resilience and creativity.
The event forms part of Create’s ongoing inspired:arts partnership with Hammersmith & Fulham Council, which is enriching local support for young carers through free, professionally led creative arts projects.
