Witness appeal following Croydon collision

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or dashcam footage following a collision in Croydon.

The collision occurred between 00:30 and 01:00hrs on Tuesday, 21 July.

The victim, a 30-year-old man, was with a friend on Whitehorse Road in Croydon when his friend became involved in a verbal altercation with a man in a beige Mini Clubman.

After a short period, the victim and his friend got into their van and drove off. They noticed that the Mini had begun to follow them.

The victim and his friend pulled over to confront the driver of the Mini, at which point the man is reported to have driven at both men.

The car hit the victim and crushed him against his van.

As a result of the collision the man sustained serious pelvic injuries and still remains in hospital.

Detective Constable Angharad Morgan, who is leading the investigation, said: “It is unclear what led to the altercation between the victim’s friend and the man driving the Mini. However, this disagreement escalated to serious violence that is totally unacceptable and resulted in significant injuries for one of the men.

“Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, this incident took place on a busy stretch of road near to a carwash. Did you witness anything out of the ordinary or see the collision itself? Did you see a beige Mini Clubman leaving the scene?

“Likewise, I would ask anyone who may have driven along this stretch of road in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, 21 July to check their dashcam for any footage of this incident. Any information that you can provide could be key to our investigation.”
