Have you ever found yourself watching TV and really liking what a character is wearing? That blazer? That shirt? “Hmm, where do I get that?” you may find yourself asking – well, don’t worry! Here are 8 iconic formal looks from TV, and how you can get the style at home:

  1. Friends – Chandler’s denim shirt and wool waistcoat

Friends is an iconic 90s sit-com that is still being watched and re-watched today. An iconic formal look from the show? Chandler donning a blue denim shirt with a wool waistcoat layered over it. Simply grab a denim shirt and layer a textured waistcoat. This look is formal with just a hint of extra comfort.

2. Friends – Ross and his roll neck jumper

Another iconic formal look from the hit sit-com is Ross’ outfit with a grey roll neck jumper and a jacket. Semi-formal yet still formal, it’s perfect for those who don’t necessarily wish to overdress, but still don’t want to risk being underdressed either. Even better if the jacket is a suit blazer just to add some extra sophistication.

3. Peaky Blinders – tweed overcoats and tweed caps

Perhaps one of the most notable iconic formal looks from TV are Tommy Shelby’s outfits on Peaky Blinders. Tweed is prominent on the show, along with the long coats and newsboy caps that can be seen worn by the characters on the show, particularly Tommy Shelby. This look is not only formal, but can also be worn as an everyday staple for when one needs to head out in the colder seasons.

4. Lucifer – only the shirt and the vest

An iconic formal but somewhat casual look is by the devil himself, Lucifer from Lucifer. The combination of the sleeves rolled and the vest layered on top is still office, events, and everyday wear appropriate. The best thing about this? You can pick any colour of shirts for men that you want and it will work really well with the vest.

5. Lucifer – Lucifer’s white suit

Who said suits had to be black, blue or grey? White suits in particular are classy and sleek, unique and bold – if you really want to stand out, ditch the black and blue suits and go for the striking white one.

6. Succession – Kendall’s impeccable taste in fashion

If you’ve seen Succession, then you know that the outfits on the show are clearly refined. Kendall’s outfits especially are epitomes of class and success – office wear yet still suitable to wear out on a regular day. Neutral coloured silk shirts and chinos – the most effortless combination.

7. The Office (US) – Andy’s varsity jumper

In the US version of The Office, there’s a particular episode where Andy is wearing a red varsity jumper on top of a shirt and tie, with a suit blazer over it. Iconic. Varsity jumpers not only add dimension and colour to the outfit, but they’re perfect for layering on top of shirts, as Andy does. Formal but chic.

8. Suits – the suits of the show

It wouldn’t be called Suits without suits, of course. Classic suits with classic ties, slim fit and a monochrome palette. It can’t get any more conventional than that. What’s not to love? It’s simple, classy, and timeless. Plus, everyone must have a black suit and tie in their wardrobe.
