Three generations of a single family have successfully completed a gruelling 200-mile cycling challenge from London to Düsseldorf, raising critical funds for Able Child.
Eight-year-old Rafferty from Mitcham, alongside his father Gary and grandfather David, crossed the finish line on 17th July 2026, after spending a week in the saddle. The trio undertook the international journey to support children and young people with disabilities across Africa.
A Family Tradition of Giving Back
This is not the first time the inspiring family team has pushed their physical limits for charity. In 2023, they successfully cycled from London to Amsterdam, raising £1,800 for the same cause. This year, they raised the stakes by extending the route to Germany and raising nearly £3000!
“We’re really looking forward to cycling together again as a family,” Rafferty shared before setting off. “It’s a great feeling to be able to help children and young people with disabilities while doing something we all love.”
Grandad David said, “It’s quite an achievement for an 8-year-old to complete that cycle and we’re very proud of him.”

Impacting Lives Across Africa
The funds generated by the cycle will go directly to Able Child, an organisation that supports a network of African organisations to protect, educate and amplify the voices of children and young people with disabilities. The charity works to ensure no child is left behind.
