Abena Oppong-Asare, MP for Erith and Thamesmead, is holding a campaigning summer school between Monday 25 – Wednesday 27 July designed to empower and inspire young people to engage in politics and campaign for change.

The Summer School will be a hands-on, first-hand insight into the exciting world of political and social campaigning – bringing together the expertise of veteran political activists and partner organisations.

Over the course of 3 days, attendees will design their very own local campaigns and Abena will personally help action the best ideas into real campaigns to benefit the residents of Erith and Thamesmead.

This follows the success of Abena’s 2021 summer school, which saw a group of young people take part in sessions on public speaking, dealing with the media, and campaigning in their communities.

Young people interested in taking part in the summer school, which is being held at London South East Colleges Bexley Campus, can find details and apply to the summer school at https://www.abenaoppongasare.com/summer-school-2022/. Applications are welcomed from anyone aged between 16 and 18, though priority will be given to those who live or go to school in the constituency of Erith and Thamesmead.

Abena Oppong-Asare MP said:

“I know from my own experience that whether you’re dealing with environmental issues, crime, or education, effective campaigning is the key to influencing and challenging those in power. So, I am determined to do all I can to empower our young people to be the change they want to see in the world.”

Shaughna Phillips, Body Image Campaigner and Love Island star said:

“I would have loved to have a summer school like this when I was younger to develop my campaigning skills and knowledge of politics. It is a great way to meet others interested in helping people and making a positive difference in the world.

I can’t wait to talk to the young people about my body image campaign, my roles in local government, and how Love Island and social media has shaped my politics.”
