Priya Cinar, the former Manager of The Mall Wood Green’s Carphone Warehouse store, has been shortlisted for Retail Week’s prestigious Store Manager of the Year Award 2019 for her work at the shopping centre.
Priya, who worked at the store from 2017- January 2019, was nominated for the award by the company’s Regional Manager and Divisional Director in September. Along with five other managers from Curry’s PC World and Carphone Warehouse, Priya was interviewed by the PR team from parent company, Dixons Carphone and successfully made the shortlist of two. She now faces a judging panel interview and presentation at Retail Week’s Head Office before attending the Awards Ceremony at Grosvenor House on 14 March.
She commented: “I am very honoured and humbled to have been thought of by my peers in a business with over 1,000 managers. I am grateful to my team and colleagues and to the company for allowing me to achieve my goals and aspirations and to push boundaries and think outside the box.”
Although Priya has worked at Carphone Warehouse for two and a half years, she began her career in retail aged 19 working for Dixons and then later moved PC World. Over the years she has also worked for a number of other major retailers.
“Winning would mean the world to me,” said Priya. “I have been in retail management for 21 years and to win this award at the company that gave me my first ever retail manager role, would be the icing on the cake. To return to the company and make an impact in just two and a half years shows my family, friends, peers and indeed anyone starting a career in retail, what can be achieved with dedication, support and hard work.”
A big supporter of the shopping centre, Priya added: “I enjoyed working at The Mall as the family atmosphere between the centre and its staff is a big attraction. The Mall provides a unique shopping experience with an eclectic mix of shops; no two days are ever the same. The retailers are all super friendly and we engage with each other regularly. It’s a great location in North London bringing in diverse customers from all over the city. For Carphone Warehouse it is our fifth biggest store in terms of volume across London. The Mall Wood Green is definitely the shopping destination of choice in North London.”
