Britflix Awards go to Dave Bautista and Rita Simons in inaugural ‘British Indie Film Awards’

Popular emerging UK film website Britflix has announced the winners of its first British Indie Film Awards and it’s a refreshingly fun list.

Dubbed ‘The Brindies’ the awards are aimed at the British movies which are popular on DVD and Digital, rather than those which cover themselves in BAFTA glory – there’s certainly no sign of the Ken Loaches or Kenneth Brannaghs here!

Instead WWE tough guy Dave Bautista wins best actor for his hard-hitting role in action film Final Score (which also picks up Best Picture) and I’m A Celebrity star Rita Simons walks away with Best Actress for her gritty role in The Krays – Dead Man Walking. The Krays film, which was a huge success on DVD despite being largely ignored by critics picked up 3 awards.

Other winners include Martine McCutcheon, Chris Ellison and Edward Woodward’s grandson, Charlie. Gangster film favourite Craig Fairbrass picks up the ‘Britflix Legend; award.

There are also awards for Best British Film book (Performance at 50), best distributor (Arrow Films) and a special Contribution to British Film History award which goes to cult television channel Talking Pictures TV.
