Pamela Hussain, a long-serving National Caseworker in the International Family Tracing service, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for her outstanding contribution to humanitarian work over more than three decades.
Pamela has helped thousands of people find and reconnect with lost family members, many of whom were separated by conflict, disasters, or displacement. Her work has helped families get answers after years of uncertainty.
In 2024 alone, she helped open more than 1,100 new cases and supported efforts to find more than 500 missing people. In her role with the International Family Tracing team and the global Restoring Family Links network, she has handled some of the most complex and sensitive international cases.
Over the course of her years in this role, Pamela works closely with Red Cross and Red Crescent teams and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Together, they help reunite families across borders and around the world.
Pamela, who has been a part of the British Red Cross for over 36 years, said: “I am truly honoured to receive this recognition. Supporting people separated from their loved ones has always been at the heart of my work, and it’s incredibly meaningful to be part of a service that brings hope when it is needed most. This work is made possible through a strong global partnership, working closely with Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies around the world and the International Committee of the Red Cross.”
Pamela has supported families torn apart by some of the most significant humanitarian crises of recent decades. She has worked in countries such as Rwanda and Somalia and has also supported major disaster responses, including the Boxing Day tsunami and Earthquake in Pakistan. She also provided vital support to colleagues managing urgent and highly sensitive Afghan cases.
Pamela’s work has helped build a strong and resilient International Family Tracing service across the UK.
Béatrice Butsana-Sita, British Red Cross chief executive, said: “Pamela is a fantastic ambassador for the British Red Cross and I am delighted that she has been recognised for her service through the awarding of an MBE.
“She has worked on many complex international cases and helped transform the lives of thousands of people in crisis during her 36 years with the British Red Cross International Family Tracing team.
“Pamela has shown incredible humanity throughout her decades-long service with the charity and is committed to making the world a better place. I’d like to congratulate her on the well-deserved recognition.”
