A regional housebuilder donated £750 to help Brent group provide young carers with a much-needed break.

Brent Carers Centre applied to Persimmon Homes North London to become one of its Community Champions. Under the scheme, the housebuilder supports two groups or individuals every month with a match-funded donation of up to £1,000 each.

The donation went towards taking 30 young carers on a day trip to a zoo in East Sussex. The trip is part of a programme which gives young carers the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities, meet others and form friendships.

Spokesman John Phelps said: “The youngsters chosen for the trip were identified by our staff as those in greatest need. It allowed these young carers to be children for a day and enjoy a range of activities and experiences that most, if not all, had not had an opportunity to experience before.

“They visited Drusilla’s Zoo and were able to take part in a range of fun and educational activities, meet others and share experiences and form friendships with other young carers from their local area. For many, it would have been the first time that they had travelled outside of London and we thank Persimmon Homes North London for its support.”
