Homelessness charity Emmaus Greenwich is joining charities and voluntary organisations across the UK in celebrating the contribution of volunteers as part of Volunteers’ Week 2026, taking place from 1–7 June.
Now in its 42nd year, Volunteers’ Week is an annual UK-wide campaign that recognises and thanks the millions of volunteers who give their time, skills and energy to support good causes and strengthen communities.
Emmaus provides more than just a home for people who have experienced homelessness. Through tailored support, training and meaningful work opportunities, the charity empowers people to regain confidence, develop new skills and build positive futures. Volunteers are an essential part of creating this supportive community and helping companions take steps towards greater independence.
At Emmaus Greenwich, volunteers play a vital role in helping people who have experienced homelessness rebuild their lives. From supporting the charity’s retail operations and fundraising activities to assisting with administration, driving and community projects, and sharing specialist skills, volunteers help make the charity’s work possible.
Throughout Volunteers’ Week, Emmaus Greenwich will be celebrating its volunteers by sharing their stories, highlighting their achievements and recognising the positive impact they have on the charity, its companions and the wider local community.
Simon Frost, CEO at Emmaus Greenwich, said:
“Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, commitment and enthusiasm they bring to our community.
“Whether they are helping in our shops, supporting events, sharing professional expertise or volunteering behind the scenes, every volunteer makes a valuable contribution to our work. Their support helps people who have experienced homelessness to rebuild their confidence, gain new opportunities and move forward in life.
“Volunteers’ Week is a chance for us to say a heartfelt thank you and celebrate the difference our volunteers make every day.”
Volunteering also offers benefits for those who take part, providing opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills, gain experience and become part of a welcoming and supportive community.
