Five Historic Wins of Arsenal FC

Spectacular 30s

It was the glorious 30s for Arsenal when they dominated the decade. They won the league titles in 1934, 1935 and 1937; major credit to Joe Shaw and George Allison for pulling off the strings as managers. The football club outwon Huddersfield Town in 1935 and took home their first trophy. And that was the decade when Arsenal was termed ‘legendary’, with a win of four league titles and one FA Cup.

First Doubles

Post the Second World War, Arsenal emerged as a rising star. Bertie Mee took over the foot club in the late 1960s, which led to Arsenal’s win 4-3 in 1969/1970. George Armstrong, Frank McLintock, Charlie George and Ray Kennedy were the reason for Arsenal’s win the season and also added an extra cup to their kitty at Wembley.

FA Final Cup

The 1979 FA Final Cup was one of the greatest matches in the history of football. With the match contested by Arsenal and Manchester United, the former scored some dramatic equalisers with a final result of 3-2. The match was rightly renowned as the ‘Five-minute Final’, with Alan Sunderland scoring some last-minute wins.

2001-2002 Double

The 2001-2002 season was Arsenal’s double-winning campaign, and what a great one; it was their second double in five years! While ranking Arsene Wenger’s best-ever Arsenal team, the Invincibles of 2003-2004 stood in a league of their own. Henry and Bergkamp formed an amazing top while being supported by Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg. And hey, let’s not forget Patrick Vieria sporting the central midfield.

2005 FA Cup

The 2005 FA cup has victoriously gone down Arsenal’s wins. Like in 1979, Arsenal faced Manchester United in a dreadful fight, sprung to glory and successfully dispatched the Red Devils. A major season highlight was when the Gunners reached Paris for the Champions League in 2005/2006.

We cannot go without mentioning that despite a penalty shoot-out, Arsenal became the first team to bag the 2005 FA Cup. The initial 90 minutes were a struggle for both teams, but the last 30 minutes were momentous for Arsenal, the shoot-out finishing at 5-4. Some record-breaking moves include Patrick Vieira scoring the win and Jens Lehmann, Arsenal’s goalkeeper, saving Paul Scholes’ shot.

The Club’s wins include many minor trophies, with UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, Football League War Cup, 13 First Premier League Titles, 15 FA Community Shields, 2 League Cups, 14 FA Cups, European Cup Winner’s Cup and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Undeniably, Arsenal is the third most successful club in English football.
