Debenhams, in the heart of Market Street, was paid a special visit by singer Fleur East on Wednesday evening, as she was tasked with switching on the Manchester store’s Christmas lights.

Shoppers were given the chance to see Fleur, who shot to fame on X Factor back in 2014, setting Market Street aglow for the annual switch on. Her new single ‘Size’ is the soundtrack to Debenhams’ current Christmas TV advert and she was welcomed into store to meet colleagues and set off the festivities.

Fleur made history as the first singer to reach number 1 on the iTunes chart whilst appearing on the show and has since won the heart of the nation during a gruelling stint on reality show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

The ‘Size’ singer features in Debenhams’ Christmas TV advert this year, taking the shape of a festive fairy godmother who banishes the stress out of shopping for those ‘hard to buy for’ family members, with a wave of her magic wand. This comes after the introduction of the biggest range of 3-for-2 offers in UK retail, which aims to alleviate pressures of shopping on a family budget.

Stephen Crolley, Area Manager at Debenhams Manchester said: “The Christmas lights switch on is a huge date in our festive calendar and something we hope the people of Manchester enjoyed celebrating with us.
“We’d like to thank those who came down to celebrate with us and kick off the festive season in store. It was fantastic to have Fleur, who is a big part of our Christmas campaign, as the star of the show this year. She really helped to bring a bit of her magic to the Manchester store.”
