GMB LONDON MEMBERS AND FAMILIES TO JOIN WEEKEND TRIBUTES TO HEALTH AND CARE WORKERS AND MARK 72ND BIRTHDAY OF NHS

The huge tasks of rebuilding from the economic wasteland and learning lessons from how our institutions handled this so far unfinished worldwide crisis come next says GMB London

GMB London members and their families, over the coming weekend, will join in the nationwide tributes honouring people who lost their lives due to the pandemic, showing appreciation for all health, care and key workers and marking the 72nd birthday of the NHS.

On Saturday evening (4 July), they will be part of the nationwide effort to commemorate coronavirus victims with a light or a candle in their window to show their support.

On Sunday 5th July at 5pm, on the 72nd birthday of the NHS, they will be part with everyone across the UK in the biggest ever ‘clap for carers’ to thank all key workers.

Gavin Davies, GMB London senior officer , said &quot GMB members and their families in London and the East of England will once again take part in this nationwide show of solidarity to express appreciation and gratitude to all our key workers who got the nation safely through this unprecedented crisis and to honour the lives lost in the pandemic.

This is a time for us as a society to show appreciation for the key workers and honour those who lost their lives in the pandemic.

The huge tasks of rebuilding from the economic wasteland in its wake and learning the lessons from how all the UK institutions handled this so far unfinished worldwide crisis come next.

All the sinews and all the resolve of all the institutions in society working together will be required to get us through what comes next. The electorate will be unforgiving to any lack of resolve in any part of society in this next crucial recovery phase in this unfinished crisis.

If we are going to avoid mass unemployment and poverty its vital that the Government puts in place genuine packages of support, we also need those employers who have fraudulently used the furlough scheme brought to justice”
