Housing and homelessness charity recruitment has grown sharply over the past 15 years, with new CharityJob analysis revealing that charities are increasingly hiring across the UK as housing pressures spread far beyond the capital.
Analysis of more than a decade of CharityJob job posting data shows housing and homelessness roles grew at an average annual rate of 10.9% between 2010 and 2026, making it one of the fastest-growing areas of charity recruitment.
The findings also reveal a significant shift in where those jobs are being created.
In 2010, London accounted for nearly two-thirds (64%) of all housing and homelessness charity jobs advertised through CharityJob. By 2025, that figure had fallen to 57%, as charities across the country expanded services to respond to rising local demand.
At the same time, housing and homelessness increased its share of all charity jobs by 3.9 percentage points, underlining the growing importance of the cause across the sector.
The strongest regional growth was recorded in Scotland and the North East, where housing and homelessness roles increased their share of local charity recruitment by 11 percentage points between 2010 and 2026.
The data suggests housing insecurity is no longer a challenge concentrated in London, but one increasingly affecting communities across the UK.
CharityJob founder, Raya Wexler, said of the findings:
“For many years, housing and homelessness charities were heavily concentrated in London. Our data shows that is changing. While the capital remains the largest hub for housing and homelessness organisations, we’re seeing significant growth in recruitment across the UK as charities respond to rising demand in their local communities.”
“The shift reflects the reality that housing pressures are now being felt in towns and cities across the country. The charity sector is scaling up to meet that challenge.”
The findings also show that Yorkshire was the only UK region to see its share of housing and homelessness charity jobs decline over the period, falling by three percentage points.
The analysis is based on CharityJob job posting data from 2010 to 2026, examining long-term trends in charity recruitment by cause area and region.
