KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA NAMED LONDON’S CLEANEST BOROUGH FOR FOOD

Diners in Kensington and Chelsea can tuck in with confidence as the borough has been revealed to be the cleanest in London when it comes to food.

A study of more than 62,000 London businesses where people can eat out or shop for food found that 82.2 per cent of outlets in Kensington and Chelsea earned the Food Standards Agency’s highest rating of five.

Just 15 businesses – or 0.93 per cent – were classed as needing improvement.

The food hygiene rating scheme is run by the borough in partnership with the Food Standards Agency. Each business is given a rating following an inspection by a food safety officer based on how hygienically food is handled, how safely it is prepared, the cleanliness and layout of the premises and food safety management and documentation.

Cllr Johnny Thalassites, Lead Member for Planning, Place and Environment, said:

“The lifting of Covid restrictions means we’re all able to enjoy eating out more often, and with so many of our food businesses receiving the highest possible hygiene rating there’s no better place in London to do so than Kensington and Chelsea.

“The diversity of our communities is reflected in the huge range of global cuisine being served up across the borough, so whatever your tastes you’re sure to find something to tickle your tastebuds.”

The scores of all 1,866 food businesses in Kensington and Chelsea can be found on the Food Standards Agency website. As an example of the variety on offer, we picked some of the many restaurants that received a top rating of five from 10 postcode areas within the borough:
