An exhibition of artwork created by students from local primary schools commemorating the King’s Coronation is being hosted at Bluewater. Dartford MP, Gareth Johnson, tasked the borough’s primary school children with creating portraits of His Majesty the King to celebrate his upcoming Coronation.

Pupils from 20 schools entered the competition, with each school selecting two lucky winners. The winning 40 portraits have been unveiled at an exhibition at Bluewater. The display is open until 12th May and can be found on the Lower Rose Gallery, outside Leon.

James Waugh, Centre Director at Bluewater, commented: “We are delighted to be marking His Majesty’s upcoming Coronation with an art exhibition that the youngest members of our local community have created. The winning portraits are fantastic, and it is great to see each child’s own interpretation of the King shine through.

“We’d like to thank Gareth Johnson MP for organising the competition and take great pleasure in hosting such a wonderful collection of art from youngsters in the region to mark a historic moment such as this.”

Dartford MP, Gareth Johnson, said: “The King’s Coronation is a momentous occasion; it is something this country has not seen for generations, and it is an opportunity for the country to come together.

“I am really pleased so many schools decided to take part and I am honoured to have unveiled the exhibition at Bluewater.”

As well as enjoying the King Charles III-themed exhibition, guests can visit M&S and John Lewis for all their Coronation weekend needs, with both stores for stocking special Coronation lines, including commemorative keepsakes, decorations and exclusive food and drinks.

What’s more, families can visit the LEGO store for special ‘Make and Take’ events, at midday and 2pm on the 6th and 8th May. Participants will build their very own LEGO Coronation Crown model, which is exclusive to these sessions. Additionally, The Entertainer will be running a crown design competition in-store until 10th May, with entrants in with a chance to win a £100 prize bundle.

Finally, the centre will be commemorating the occasion with a ‘Best of British’ playlist playing in the mall over the Coronation weekend.
