The creativity of young people from across Kingston will go on public display on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October, from 11am–2pm, as London Square and Square Roots invite the local community to County Hall Kingston for a special exhibition celebrating the ‘Kingston Through Your Eyes’ art and photography competition.
Taking place over the summer holidays, the competition invited children and young people from a group of local primary schools, including Malden Parochial CofE School, St Matthew’s CofE Primary School, St Agatha’s Catholic Primary School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and Latchmere School, as well as secondary school pupils from Tiffin School, to capture what Kingston means to them through art and photography. Visitors will be able to view the entries and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Award.
Led by the Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames, Cllr Jane Lim, the judging panel will also include Suzanne Darling, Gallery Manager at Clarendon Fine Art, Sid Hanif at London Square and co-founder of Raw Ground Arts, Tahira Mandarino on behalf of Tiffin School. They visited County Hall Kingston on Tuesday 29 September to view the entries and select the competition winners and runners-up.
Kate McLure, Head of Sales (South) at London Square, said: “We have been delighted by the creativity and imagination shown by the young people who have taken part in our ‘Kingston Through Your Eyes’ competition. County Hall Kingston is an important part of the local community and it is wonderful to be able to open its doors and give young people the opportunity to showcase their work. We hope the exhibition brings families and the wider Kingston community together to celebrate the young talent on our doorstep.”
Andrew Dean, Director of Engagement at Tiffin School, said: “It is fantastic to see our students taking part in London Square and Square Roots’ ‘Kingston Through Your Eyes’ competition and having the opportunity to express their creativity and their connection with Kingston. Exhibitions like this give young people a real sense of pride in seeing their work displayed publicly, and we are looking forward to seeing the full range of entries exhibited at County Hall Kingston.”
The exhibition will be held in the historic County Hall Kingston on Penrhyn Road, the former Surrey County Council headquarters, which is being carefully restored by London Square to create a collection of stunning new homes.
London Square is currently selling a wide variety of new homes in Kingston, including one, two and three-bedroom apartments and duplexes at County Hall Kingston and one, two and three-bedroom apartments through shared ownership at Square Roots Kingston.
