Lady Ogden officially opened an Ogden Trust ‘Phiz Lab’ at Avonmore Primary School in west London on Tuesday 26 March. She was accompanied by her husband, Sir Peter Ogden, and family members – all trustees of the family charitable trust which promotes the teaching and learning of physics.

Pupils were excited to show a number of distinguished visitors who attended their hands-on experiments in the newly furbished space which had been created thanks to the enthusiasm and hard work of Assistant Head and Science Lead, Dan Brown, with encouragement from Head of School Maya Wittleton, and the commitment of school governor, Alastair Lang.

Dan Brown says: It was such a delightful event. To have over 100 parents, children, people from our community and guests from The Ogden Trust all together in our lab was amazing. The children loved being able to show off their experiments, scientific artwork and detailed subject knowledge to so many adults.

“To hear about Lady Ogden’s time working at our school as a PE teacher was a particular highlight! Working with The Ogden Trust has completely revolutionised the way that this school teaches science and the way that the children here experienced it.

“After months of hard work, transforming this derelict space into our lab was so rewarding. Every single child at Avonmore deserves the chance to experience in a fun, engaging and curious way to be inspired to become the scientists of tomorrow.

“Next week we are holding our first partnership science fair and then will continue to use our Phiz Lab for many, many years. I look forward to developing the partnership further next year by including more schools so that Ogden’s support can impact even more children across this part of London.”
