AHEAD of the new school year opticians across the London region are encouraging parents and carers to book their child in for a sight test.
Rajesh Ramesh Chandegra, Specsavers Vice Chair for Greater London, and optometrist director at Specsavers Islington and Specsavers Bishopsgate is highlighting that eye tests for children are free with an NHS optical voucher for under-16s, as are some glasses.
Raj explains: ‘We know that children can fall behind in school if they are struggling to see clearly, and a pair of glasses can sometimes be such an easy fix. You might not know that your child is struggling to see if they don’t tell you, but there are some signs you might be able to spot.
‘These include sensitivity to light, complaining of headaches or tired eyes, sitting too close to the TV, or frequently rubbing their eyes, amongst other things.
‘Even if you haven’t spotted any of these signs, Specsavers recommends that children have an eye test at least every two years.
‘Eye tests can also spark a great sense of wonder in many children, so they could learn something while you check their eyes are in good health. It’s the perfect summer holiday family day out.’
