On Saturday 4th May Partridges of Sloane Square are hosting Chelsea’s first annual Chelsea Bun Bake-Off Competition to celebrate World Chelsea Bun Day. The judging is taking place during the  Duke of York Square weekly fine food market on the Kings Road in Chelsea and all proceeds are being donated to the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

The judges will include Phil Howard, Michelin Star Chef and Owner of Elystan Street in Chelsea; Chelsea Pensioner Marjorie Cole; John Shepherd, owner of Partridges and a representative from the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

John Shepherd, Owner and Managing Directory of Partridges says… “The first Chelsea Bun was created around 1700 by Richard Hand, who was known as Captain Bun, close to Partridges store in Duke of York Square, Chelsea. Richard ran The Old Chelsea Bun House which was famous for its Chelsea Buns and counted amongst its customers King George II, King George III and their families. We are delighted to launch this competition to revive the baking of Chelsea Buns in the local area. We hope lots of Chelsea residents will want to get involved in celebrating World Chelsea Bun Day and help raise funds and awareness for the excellent Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.”
