A major new contemporary arts hub is opening on London’s South Bank on 25 June, transforming a vacant office building near Tate Modern into a new destination for exhibitions, artist studios and public events.
Created by arts charity Hypha Studios, Hypha Gallery South Bank brings together almost 800m² of gallery space, a dedicated project space, a new showroom supporting emerging artists and free studios for 17 artists under one roof on Southwark Bridge Road.
The venue launches with three free exhibitions spanning sculpture, site-responsive installation and an immersive bio-sonic listening environment, alongside a year-round programme of exhibitions, pop-ups, performances and community events.
Over the next year, the site is expected to support around 600 artists, while demonstrating how London’s empty commercial buildings can be repurposed as vibrant cultural spaces.
Opening programme highlights include:
• Bridging the Gap – a sculpture exhibition inspired by Southwark Bridge and themes of connection, separation and repair.
• A group exhibition exploring movement, memory and the layered histories of Southwark through new site-specific works.
• An immersive bio-sonic installation by Hyella that invites visitors into a living listening environment shaped by microbial and fungal systems.
The exhibitions open on Thursday 25 June and run until 26 July.
