From Thursday 26 to Saturday 28 November, Novikov Restaurant & Bar brings the Mayfair Christmas Market back to Mayfair Place for its eleventh year. For three days only, this corner of Mayfair, just off Berkeley Street, becomes a snow-covered winter village, with Novikov Restaurant & Bar’s kitchens cooking in the open air, Champagne at the ice bar, carols in the afternoon and DJs in the evening.
Eleven years on, the market has become a fixture of the Mayfair social calendar: the place to start the Christmas shopping, meet friends after work and bring the children to see Santa. The market is open from 11am to 9pm daily, entry is free and there are no bookings. Early arrival is recommended.
“The market has always been our Christmas present to Mayfair. The snow, the reindeer, the carols, and the very best of what our kitchens do, out in the open air for everyone to enjoy,” says Caroline Taylor, General Manager, Novikov Restaurant & Bar.
A Taste of Novikov
The Italian and Asian kitchens from Novikov Restaurant & Bar step out from behind the doors of 50A Berkeley Street to cook in the open air. From the Italian kitchen comes pasta finished to order in a whole wheel of Parmesan, served alongside slow-roasted porchetta. The Asian kitchen brings lobster rolls, its signature Rock Shrimp Tempura and truffle chips. A Wagyu beef burger also joins the market menu.
The centrepiece is the raw bar, where a whole tuna is carved by hand in front of guests and served as sashimi and nigiri, alongside oysters and caviar: a menu more at home in a Mayfair dining room than on a market stall. And by popular demand after last year, cheese raclette returns, Novikov-style, scraped straight from the wheel and served with a selection of fine cheeses.
To finish, the pastry stand serves Novikov’s famous Basque cheesecake, alongside churros and doughnuts.
Champagne, Mulled Wine and Carols
There are few better places in London to drink Champagne in the snow. The Louis Roederer Champagne Ice Bar is open daily, with Novikov Restaurant & Bar’s signature mulled wine keeping out the cold, and every stand pours its own cocktail built around a single spirit. Market partners include Grey Goose, Diageo, Anna Dutch, Asahi and Louis Roederer.
Roaming musicians will entertain visitors from 11am each day until 6pm, when Novikov’s resident DJs Sally K and Spencer take to the decks until 9pm. Carol singers will perform from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Thursday and Friday, and from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday.
Snow, Santa and Reindeer
The snow is guaranteed, as it has been every year, falling over Mayfair Place for all three days. Santa takes up residence from 11am daily, and on Saturday 28 November, from 1pm to 3pm, his live reindeer come to Mayfair, a few steps from Berkeley Street. There is no charge to meet Santa or see the reindeer.
