Photography graduate Antoinette Castro recently exhibited her work at La Sala de Arte de Joquin Amigó, part of the Real Casino de Tenerife (RCT) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The exhibition, titled ‘Revelations’ was a joint show with established painter Ivan Surikov.

Antoinette graduated with a BA (Hons) Photography degree from the University’s London School of Film, Media and Design in 2025.

Projects and promotion

The ehhibition featured two of Antoinette’s projects: ‘Beneath the Fragile’, her final major project at UWL, and a new body of work, ‘Unfolding the View’.

In the lead-up to the exhibition, she organised media promotion and guest speakers and artists for the preview event. Following a successful opening night, she offered guided tours of the exhibition and continued to promote it to new audiences.

Further recognition and new work

Since graduating, Antoinette has received further recognition for her work. ‘Beneath the Fragile’ was published in DIGIT magazine, while an interview discussing her project ‘Madre’ appeared in Dementia Spring’s Artist Spotlight.

Antoinette is currently studying for a masters degree in Fine Art and developing a new mixed-media project that expands on themes explored in ‘Beneath the Fragile’, focusing on identity and place.

Reflecting on her journey, Antoinette said:

“The experience and knowledge I gained at UWL was invaluable to helping me expand my artistic journey – from how to display the work, to the quality of printing and framing, to refining my written and technical skills. I had great support from my lecturers throughout my time there.”

Senior Lecturer for BA (Hons) Photography Peter Bennett said:

“Antoinette really was a model student. She was very talented, hardworking and driven. Her work was highly thought provoking and beautiful. I am delighted to see how well she is doing just over a year since graduating and can’t wait to see the new images she is working on.”
