Sarah, Duchess of York, has joined the growing list of advocates for award-winning humanitarian, Jillian Haslam, and is rooting for the upcoming launch of her memoir, “A Voice Out of Poverty”, which is set for release on Wednesday 8th March – International Women’s Day.

Already in receipt of glowing endorsements from Joanna Lumley and Author of Slumdog Millionaire (Q&A), Vikas Swarup, “A Voice Out of Poverty” captures Jillian’s upbringing in the devastating slums of Calcutta, India. Her resilience and determination saw to the escape of her living conditions, leading to her becoming the bank’s President of The Charity & Diversity Network; a platform which allowed her to thrive doing what she loves the most: helping others to succeed and rise above adversity.

Sarah, Duchess of York, has praised Jillian’s abundance of character alongside the book’s enlightening and “inspirational” messages:

“Jillian’s story of a poor Anglo-Indian family struggling to exist in the slums of Calcutta shows the power of love and goodness,” said the Duchess. “In the book, Jillian recalls the generosity of the local people, such as the tea shop owner who gave milk to her sick baby sister. The trials of her life taught her resilience and mental strength, but kindness gave her hope for the future.”

“I am a great believer in kindness, and Jillian is an inspiration and example to us all.”

Jillian, the Author of “A Voice Out of Poverty said: “I am delighted that Sarah, Duchess of York, has taken a personal interest in my life story and book. Her beautiful endorsement gives me hope that my story will be heard far and wide, and that it will empower others to overcome their own adversity in life.”

The book launch event aligns with the global celebration of International Women’s Day, which the official website defines as “global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.”

“Launching “A Voice Out of Poverty” on International Women’s Day is of great importance to me.” Jillian said. “I look forward to delivering my speech in honour of this celebration and women around the world at the event.”

Alongside existing book reviews, “A Voice Out of Poverty” has sparked interest in the TV and Film Industry, with Retired Hollywood Film Producer Jack Sholder (Nightmare on Elm Street 2) referring to Jillian’s story as “Enormously compelling…like something out of Dickens, yet true” and “…tailor-made for the cinema.”

“I am humbled that so many wish to see my story be brought to life on screen,” Jillian shared. “I warmly welcome contact from talented film, series and documentary makers with a vision to make this possible.”

The book launch event will take place at Grosvenor Gallery in St James’s, London, known for its championship of modern and contemporary Asian art, with a predominant focus on the work of mid-20th century Indian modernists.
