Signature at Highgate, part of Signature Senior Lifestyle, has brought residents, families and the local community together for a successful charity event in support of international animal welfare organisation, Paws2Rescue.

The much-anticipated event, which builds on a series of successful fundraisers hosted by the Highgate community in recent years, saw guests come together for an afternoon of fundraising, awareness and shared compassion for animals in need. Previous events held by the home have also been supported by comedian and long-time animal welfare advocate Ricky Gervais, highlighting the growing profile of the initiative.

While unable to attend this year’s event, Ricky Gervais shared his support for the charity’s work. He said:

“Sorry I can’t be with you tonight. Paws2Rescue do amazing work for dogs in Romania. A great team. Please join me in giving them your support!”

The home welcomed actor and animal welfare advocate Peter Egan – best known for roles in hit ITV shows Downton Abbey and crime drama Unforgotten – whose ongoing support has helped raise awareness of the charity’s work over the years.

Hosted at the luxury care home, the event reflects Signature’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful experiences for residents while supporting important causes locally and globally.

Marian Alexandru, General Manager for Signature at Highgate said:

“We are incredibly proud to have hosted another successful animal rights charity event. It was wonderful to see our residents, their families and the wider community come together once again for such a worthwhile cause. Events like this are a key part of life at Signature at Highgate, helping us stay connected to the community while making a positive difference.”

The event was celebrated by resident and Paws2Rescue supporter, Angela Humphrey, whose long-standing dedication to animal welfare helped inspire the partnership.

She said:

“I have been involved with animal welfare charities since childhood, but Paws2Rescue holds a very special place in my heart. What began as a small awareness gathering among friends has grown into something truly extraordinary. Today, the charity has helped build vet clinics, neuter and rehome thousands of animals, and bring compassion and education into communities that need it most.”

Through events like this, Signature at Highgate continues to provide opportunities for residents to engage with causes they are passionate about, reinforcing a sense of purpose, connection and community within the home.

Paws2Rescue works across six countries to tackle animal suffering through rescue, education and large-scale neutering programmes. To date, the charity has neutered more than 21,500 animals and rehomed over 13,000, with all funds going directly to its work as a fully volunteer-led organisation.

Funds raised at the Highgate event will contribute to the charity’s ongoing efforts, including emergency support for shelters in Ukraine and the development of new veterinary facilities in Romania.
