Sarah Berresford, Head of Marketing and Communications at South Ken Culture Quarter, comments:
“South Ken Culture Quarter builds on the extraordinary legacy of the Great Exhibition of 1851 and Prince Albert’s vision for this part of London as a place of learning, discovery and innovation. At its heart is a simple but powerful idea: curiosity. It’s the force that drives creativity, inspires new thinking and brings people together, which is why ‘Curious Since 1851’ remains central to everything we do.
The Quarter is one of London’s best places to spend a day, bringing together world-class museums, cultural venues, educational institutions and beautiful green spaces, all within walking distance. With an ever-changing programme of exhibitions, events, performances and experiences, there’s always something new to discover, whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning again and again.”
Beyond its institutions, South Kensington also offers moments of calm and connection through its parks, gardens and public spaces. With easy access to the Royal Parks and green spaces around Exhibition Road and the Natural History Museum, the Quarter encourages visitors to slow down, explore at their own pace and experience culture alongside nature.
The refreshed identity also highlights the Quarter’s commitment to widening access to culture, with a range of affordable and inclusive initiatives already in place, including £5 cinema tickets at Institut français for under-25s, discounted group courses at Goethe-Institut, and under-30s ticketing schemes at the Royal Albert Hall.
Underpinning the new identity is a shared belief across all 22 partner institutions that curiosity drives discovery, fuels creativity and strengthens communities. By bringing together culture, science and education in one place, South Ken Culture Quarter creates a distinctive environment where ideas are explored, tested and shared as part of everyday life. Central to the new website and its trails is South Kensington’s extraordinary range of collections and stories, from natural history specimens and dinosaur skeletons to Victorian houses and Japanese design. The area showcases globally significant research and innovation across science, technology, design, engineering and music, much of it originating in the Quarter and continuing to shape understanding worldwide.
Together, the Quarter’s institutions welcome more than 20 million visitors each year, forming one of the most concentrated cultural districts in the world. The new website makes this scale easier to navigate, helping audiences understand South Kensington not as a collection of destinations, but as one connected cultural landscape shaped by curiosity.
