Specsavers stores across London mark National Apprenticeship Week

TO MARK National Apprenticeship Week (7th – 13th February 2022), London Specsavers store directors are encouraging locals to sign up to its apprenticeship scheme.

With roles including optometry, dispensing opticians, audiology, laboratory technician, customer service practitioners and office support staff, the apprenticeship scheme is open to anyone from the age of 16 – including recent school or college leavers or those looking for a new challenge. Training lasts for 13 months, however there are also degree level apprenticeships available, which take three to four years to complete.

A great ambassador for the apprenticeship scheme, is Vladimir Bursuc who left 6th Form to join the scheme being run in his home town of Hemel Hempstead. When discussing why he decided to study for the apprenticeship, Vladimir said; ‘I was very attracted to the learning development opportunities and being able to expand my education. Also the transition from school to work seemed to be pretty straightforward, especially as you have a set learning time and structure that is similar to school life!’

Vladimir continued; ‘Studying for nationally recognised qualifications is also providing me with additional skills that I can build on. Within Specsavers the career progression is endless and there is always room for growth, which I personally find exciting and inspiring.’

Specsavers Regional Chair for London, Onkar Khambay, says: ‘We encourage school leavers to consider the apprenticeship scheme, as there are a number of roles they can pursue. It’s rewarding to see them progress, watch them grow as people and play an integral part within the team!’

‘Our apprenticeship programme has a great track record, with 92% of our apprentices saying that their career prospects have improved. Our training has also been viewed as best in the sector by Ofsted.’

‘As long as you’re a hard worker, punctual and ambitious you will do well at Specsavers and there is plenty of opportunity to continue with your development.’

Specsavers has 270 apprenticeships available across the country and employs apprentices across its retail stores, support offices, manufacturing and distribution sites. Entry requirements are grades D or higher in GCSE Maths and English.
