Around 1,500 participants took on the iconic London 2 Brighton Ultra Challenge this past bank holiday weekend, conquering varying distances ranging from 100km, 50km and 25km in what proved to be one of the hottest and most picturesque editions yet.
Setting off from Richmond in South-West London and heading south towards the coast, challengers walked, jogged and ran their way through the Surrey Hills and Sussex countryside before finishing triumphantly at Brighton Racecourse, cheered on by supporters enjoying the warm, sunny conditions.
Participants have so far raised a staggering £750,000 for charity, with that number still rising.
Despite the heat, the event delivered standout performances at the front of the field.
Henry Hart stormed to victory, completing the full 100km in an extraordinary 8:22:24, setting a new course record. Hart is one of the UK’s leading 100km runners and is aiming for qualification for the upcoming World 100km Championships. Well-known running influencer Emily Fairs was the first female 100km finisher with a time of 10:50:02.
The event welcomed participants of all abilities, from seasoned ultra-athletes to first-time challengers, with options to take on shorter distances as well as the full route.
Julian Risley, Founder and Managing Director at Ultra Challenge said: “It was an incredible weekend from start to finish. The warm weather added an extra challenge, but the atmosphere, camaraderie between participants, and determination from everyone taking part was truly inspiring.
“What makes Ultra Challenge so special, and different from many other events, is not only the level of support we offer across the route, including quality rest stops, medical support, and a great range of food & refreshments – but it’s the people that take part. There’s a wide range of ages, experience & fitness levels, with some using the event to fundraise for charities, and over £750,000 in total – whilst for others, it was an unforgettable personal challenge to take on at their own pace. Many of the stories are so powerful, and a fantastic welcoming community has developed – which makes the series of 20 events across the UK unique.”
The London 2 Brighton Challenge continues to grow in popularity, offering a unique endurance experience.
With another successful edition complete, Ultra Challenge have confirmed that entries for the 2027 Series will be opening in July, with high demand expected following interest in this year’s Challenge and the ongoing success of the 2026 Series so far. Participants and supporters are encouraged to sign up early to secure their place.
