Tom Kerridge’s Chelsea pub launches free Sunday roast for dogs

To celebrate International Dog Day on Wednesday 26 August, Tom Kerridge’s The Chalk Freehouse is launching The Dog’s Dinner on Sunday 30 August: a proper Sunday roast created especially for four-legged guests. Available for a limited run throughout autumn, the new dish marks the return of Sunday roast season for humans and hounds alike.

Already a proudly dog-friendly pub, where furry friends are welcome to join their humans for a bite to eat, The Chalk Freehouse has collaborated with the fresh, gently cooked dog food brand Butternut Box, to co-create a meal that brings dogs into one of the dining experiences their humans love most.

The Dog’s Dinner will be served complimentary to dogs accompanying guests dining from The Chalk Freehouse’s Sunday menu, making the pub a new destination for dog owners from across London and beyond looking to enjoy a standout Sunday roast without leaving their best friend at home.

The dish has been developed jointly by The Chalk Freehouse’s Head Chef Tom De Keyser and the team at Butternut Box to ensure it is safe, healthy and – crucially – tasty for dogs.

The starting point is Butternut Box’s Pork This Way, freshly prepared with 60% human-quality pork alongside carrots, butternut squash, split red lentils and green vegetables. The Chalk Freehouse team gives it the full Sunday roast treatment by topping it with dog-friendly trimmings including crushed carrot, roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding, served in small or large portions. On the menu, the dish is written first in ‘dog’ – plenty of woofs and the occasional bark – before being helpfully translated into English as ‘Roast Dinner with all the Trimmings.’ The result is a proper Sunday lunch for pups – and fewer hungry eyes staring from beneath the table!

The launch has the backing of Tom Kerridge, a well-known dog lover who has ensured four-legged guests receive a warm welcome across the Tom Kerridge Group. The Dog’s Dinner takes that a step further, giving dogs their own place at the Sunday lunch table.

The Chalk Freehouse’s Head Chef Tom De Keyser said: “Sunday lunch is about bringing everyone together, and for many of our guests, that includes their dog. They have always been welcomed at The Chalk Freehouse, so it felt right to give them a roast of their own. We wanted The Dog’s Dinner to have all the fun and theatre of a proper Chalk Freehouse Sunday roast, right down to the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. We are looking forward to seeing what London’s four-legged diners make of it – I suspect we will be seeing most plates licked clean!”

Dogs visiting on other days will not miss out. As part of the collaboration, Butternut Box will also supply The Chalk Freehouse with treats for canine customers to enjoy throughout the week – whether their humans are stopping in for dinner, a quick lunch, or a pint after a walk.

For the humans, The Chalk Freehouse Sunday menu showcases Head Chef Tom De Keyser’s refined take on British pub dining. Current roasts include 30-day dry-aged ribeye of beef, half Devonshire White chicken, loin chop of Blythburgh pork and a ragu of summer vegetables with braised Portobello mushroom, all served with roast potatoes, crushed carrot, and a stuffed Yorkshire pudding.

De Keyser previously led the kitchens at Kerridge’s two-Michelin-starred The Hand & Flowers and one-Michelin-starred The Coach. At The Chalk Freehouse, he combines the comfort and generosity of a proper British pub with the ingredient-led cooking and elevated touches associated with the Tom Kerridge Group.

Charlotte McCormack, Physical Product Director at Butternut Box said: “Dog parents naturally want to know that what they are feeding their dog is both nutritious and delicious. By combining our expertise in dog nutrition through fresh dog food with The Chalk Freehouse team’s culinary creativity, we have developed every element of The Dog’s Dinner specifically with dogs in mind. Meaning owners can take their dogs out for a top-notch meal without worrying about whether it is safe and nutritious. Our Pork This Way recipe is freshly prepared with human-quality ingredients and is gently cooked rather than ultra-processed. It provides a wholesome base for the finished dish and gives owners confidence that their dog can enjoy the Sunday lunch experience too.”

Just a few steps from the King’s Road and an eight-minute walk from Sloane Square, The Chalk Freehouse brings Tom Kerridge’s signature combination of generous comfort food and refined British cooking to the capital.

The Dog’s Dinner will be available every Sunday from 30 August for a limited period throughout autumn. It is complimentary for dogs accompanying guests dining from The Chalk Freehouse Sunday menu.
