The School of Computing and Engineering’s Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Research Group at the University of West London (UWL) welcomed Dr Omer Waqar from the University of the Fraser Valley, Canada, in July for a research visit focused on knowledge exchange and exploring future collaboration opportunities.
Hosted by Professor Nagham Saeed, Head of the IIoT Research Group, the visit brought together academics and researchers to exchange expertise and discuss emerging research directions in wireless communications and Industrial Internet of Things technologies.
Exploring intelligent wireless networks
A highlight of the visit was Dr Waqar’s research seminar, ‘Machine Learning-Assisted Resource Optimisation for Wireless Networks’.
The presentation explored how machine learning techniques can be applied to optimise resource allocation and improve the performance of wireless communication networks, prompting engaging discussions on the future of intelligent wireless systems.
Showcasing innovative IIoT research
During the visit, members of the IIoT Research Group presented an overview of their ongoing research, including automated vulnerability assessment for vehicular networks, energy-efficient wireless communication for industrial systems, and low-power analogue front-end design for IIoT applications.
The presentations demonstrated the breadth of research being undertaken within the group and its focus on addressing real-world technological challenges through innovation.
Future collaboration
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss potential future collaborations between UWL and the University of the Fraser Valley. Conversations explored areas of mutual research interest, knowledge exchange and potential joint funding applications, laying the foundations for continued international collaboration.
