Waterstones is thrilled to have opened a pop-up space inspired by the Gruffalo, situated on the lower ground floor of its London flagship bookshop on Piccadilly.

The pop-up invites readers, young and old, to celebrate the highly anticipated publication of Gruffalo Granny and to explore the full range of Julia Donaldson’s wonderful stories and Axel Scheffler’s inspired art through their beloved books and an exciting array of toys, gifts and games. Created by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and published by Macmillan Children’s Books, Gruffalo Granny is the first new Gruffalo story in over 20 years.

The space will host character appearances, story times, activities and workshops for children on weekends, during the school holidays and throughout the festive season.

Customers will also be able to enjoy Gruffalo-themed treats at Waterstones Piccadilly’s Embertons Café, brought to life through a collaboration with Magic Light Pictures. Available throughout September, the October half term, and December, menu items like the Gruffalo Crumble, Purple Prickle Potion, and Deep Dark Wood Hot Chocolate offer a perfect day out for young readers.

On 11th September, as part of the celebrations, Waterstones Piccadilly will host a sold-out family event with an exclusive book signing with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

The pop-up is now open to visitors until Christmas, offering a perfect day out for Julia Donaldson fans.

Waterstones shops across the country will mark the publication of Gruffalo Granny with story times, activities or character appearances.
