West Ham United supporters joined Club legends Marlon Harewood and Carlton Cole in Thailand and turned out in their numbers for a special watch party in Bangkok as the Hammers took on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Friday night.
The event, which saw plenty of members of West Ham United Thailand Fan Club, the Club’s Official Supporters’ Group for the nation, enjoy a memorable night delivered in partnership with EVA Air, the Club’s Official Airline Partner.
Despite kick-off in east London taking place in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Thai capital, there wasn’t a spare space in O’Shea’s Irish Pub, as fans joined together with Cole and Harewood to cheer on Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
Ahead of the game, in a sea of Claret & Blue, Cole and Harewood took to the stage for an interactive Q&A, as well as handing out plenty of giveaways and leading quizzes amongst other exciting activities. The fans in attendance even presented the two former Hammers with their own customised West Ham Muay Thai shorts as a token of their appreciation for their visit to the Thai capital.
As the Irons kicked off 5,960 miles away at London Stadium, the atmosphere was buzzing throughout the match, with plenty of familiar chants passionately sung by the Thai supporters in attendance. If it was loud before the game, the atmosphere went through the roof as Dinos Mavropanos and Taty Castellanos were the heroes, sharing the goals in a 4-0 success to the delight of everyone in attendance.
Speaking following the event, Cole and Harewood were overwhelmed with the incredible enthusiasm, numbers and support shown by Irons fans in Bangkok.
Former Hammers striker and Club Ambassador Cole said:
“It was amazing to see how much passion there is for West Ham United in Thailand. From the moment we stepped off the plane we have met so many fans, even in the airport when we landed!
The event was completely sold out, even though the game kicked off in the early hours of the morning, which just shows how massive West Ham United are in all four corners of the world. It was incredible to be involved, meet the fans and also cheer on the team to such a crucial win, thanks to the Thai Hammers Fan Club and EVA Air for such a memorable night.”
Harewood added:
“To see the lengths our fans go to cheer on West Ham United in Thailand was really inspiring, the atmosphere and the amount of people clearly shows how much love people have for the Club over here.
I have been fortunate enough to meet so many of our international Official Supporters’ Clubs over the years and I love to spend time with our fans around the world in our shared passion for the Hammers. It was an amazing night, capped off with a crucial win on the pitch for the boys!
