A West Middlesex University Hospital staff member with lifelong ties to the hospital has backed the Hospital Next Door campaign, led by hospital charity CW+, which is raising funds to enhance the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre (DTEC) at West Middlesex University Hospital.
Matt Alldridge, Patient Administrator in the Haematology Oncology Day Unit, was born at West Middlesex, had his children there and has worked at the hospital for the past six years. He now supports patients in the unit, including those receiving chemotherapy, many of whom spend six or seven hours at a time having treatment.
Matt said: ‘Patients can be with us for long periods – often when they’re feeling tired or unwell – so the environment around them really matters. More space, natural light and a calmer setting can make a real difference to how people feel during lengthy chemo sessions.’
The new Oncology Unit in the Centre will increase capacity from 10 to 16 treatment chairs. These will be located in more spacious bays with natural light and views over green space, helping to create a more positive and comfortable environment for patients. Funds raised through the Hospital Next Door campaign will support patient-focused enhancements, including specialist chairs in the unit.
Matt added: ‘Every donation, no matter the size, shows our patients that their community is behind them and has a direct impact on the care we provide.’
Local people are encouraged to support the campaign by adding their name and a personal message to the virtual wall on the CW+ website, with every donation helping to deliver enhancements that directly benefit patients at West Middlesex University Hospital.
Donors able to give £250 or more to the Hospital Next Door campaign will also have their name, or the name of someone they wish to honour, included on a Founders’ Wall in the building itself – an opportunity to leave a lasting mark.
