Westminster City Council and Veolia team up to maintain spotless streets with a ‘Spring Clean’

Veolia, in partnership with Westminster City Council, have enhanced their weekend street cleaning service to clear residential hotspots and encourage residents to report any fly tipping as part of the Spring Clean campaign.

Veolia is proud to support Westminster City Council in its ongoing initiative to keep each neighbourhood safe and clean seven days a week by providing residents with a ‘Spring Clean’ throughout the borough.

There will be an extension to the residential services which will ensure that Westminster’s streets are maintained to the highest standards that Veolia have diligently kept so far. The ‘Spring Clean’ campaign in 2022 is a follow on from the successful deep cleanse initiative in 2021 when Veolia’s teams cleared 10,000 fly tips, 750 dog fouling requests, 3,500 reactive graffiti requests and 5,000 proactive graffiti removals.

The areas that will receive this extended service are:

Bayswater
Maida Vale
St Johns Wood
Pimlico
Queens Park
Marylebone

Already in 2022, Veolia teams have been proactive in Westminster streets carrying out over 1,223 street inspections in residential areas so far, where they reported any littering, fly tipping, graffiti and stickers to be removed within hours.

Maintaining a clean community within Westminster is vital to the health and safety of all residents especially during extra challenging times, such as last month’s Storm Eunice. Veolia operatives were first on the scene ensuring all roads and pavements were clear from debris, glass and trees. This event was a great example of how when residents and our teams work together, we can keep a clean, safe and green city for all.

Residents can continue to help by reporting any fly tipping to https://www.westminster.gov.uk/report-it.

Julie Angulo, General Manager for Westminster at Veolia said:
“We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Westminster City Council and our commitment to deliver an enhanced residential weekend clean service. Our teams work incredibly hard to ensure a safe and clean city seven days a week.”

Cllr James Spencer, Cabinet Member for City Management, said:
“We want residents to be proud of where they live and that’s why Westminster City Council, with our partners Veolia, are stepping up efforts to make residential areas even cleaner and greener. Our new rapid response service will make a huge difference to residents all over the city, and we’re using electric vehicles which means lower carbon emissions and cleaner air.

“Our teams provide a truly 24/7 service, collecting more than 450 tonnes of rubbish from across the city every day and maintaining an excellent standard of cleanliness across our streets.”
