A series of special all access tours were held at Berkeley’s The Green Quarter last Thursday, providing a window into life working in regeneration and placemaking.

Organised as part of Open Doors Week (4 – 9 October 2021), several people took up this opportunity to be shown around the West London development and find out about the range of careers in homebuilding. The attendees – the majority of whom were aged between 18 and 24 – came from a variety of backgrounds and included students from the local area.

Open Doors Week is held every autumn across Great Britain and is run by Build UK, which represents the construction industry. This year, 10 Berkeley Group developments have taken part, showcasing the site behind the hoardings and the potential employment paths on offer.

One participant commented: “The biggest eye opener for me has been how everything has been engineered. They want to make The Green Quarter more sustainable for the environment, while also creating a community for the residents living here. It’s going to be great for Southall!”

The tours began in the on-site Sales & Marketing Suite with an interactive presentation about The Green Quarter around a 3D model of the development. Attendees were then shown Central Gardens, a new park and playspace which was opened to the public this summer, where they learned about the development’s history and its biodiversity credentials.

To finish, participants visited the show homes, where they were given branded goody bags with succulents – representing the aim to create one of the most biodiverse developments in the UK.

Over 300 people currently work across The Green Quarter including at the Sales & Marketing Suite and on site, at levels from apprentices up to board level. All job opportunities are listed on the Ealing Council website as part of Berkeley’s commitments to local employment.

Stephen Still, Project Director at Berkeley West Thames, comments: “We were thrilled to partner with Open Doors again this year and show curious young people around our development. There are careers for everyone in homebuilding, be it in construction or sales – and you get to play a part in creating new places that benefit residents and local communities alike. I hope those who visited The Green Quarter were inspired and I’d encourage anyone interested to contact us in the future about employment opportunities.”
