England Football Legend John Barnes Performs ‘World In Motion’ From 440 Feet Atop The London Eye

Football legend, John Barnes, has been captured performing his 1990 anthem, World in Motion, on top of iconic attraction, the London Eye, ahead of England’s opening fixture.
The former England midfielder who earned 79 caps and scored 11 goals for his country, soared above the London skyline in his highest ever rendition of the Number One cult-classic synth-pop song he recorded with rock band, New Order, produced to mark England’s Italia ’90 campaign.
The former silky winger turned smooth singer then linked up with London-based a capella group, London A Cappella Collective, who joined Barnes in a truly unique version of the tune before the former footballer added his legendary rap.
To help cheer on the team, the London Eye is inviting guests to join a sky-high singalong with the London A Capella Collective in a one-of-a-kind experience. The Singing for England pod experience gives lovers of the beautiful game a unique chance to soak up sky-high views of London while enjoying the harmonies of the London vocal group. The ensemble will hit the high notes with a set list of terrace tunes, including World in Motion, Three Lions and Sweet Caroline, plus other feel-good, celebratory songs.
John Barnes said, “World in Motion was written to capture that surge of belief you feel when England head into a tournament, and singing it today at the very top of the London Eye – a global symbol of London and beyond, and somewhere very few people have had the privilege of being – has taken that feeling to another level.
“Being joined by the London A Cappella Collective and hearing the song reimagined, before I got to drop the rap, was really special.
“As the country gets behind the Three Lions for the World Cup, I’m hoping that my highest ever performance of ‘World In Motion’ can help motivate the players to new heights ahead of the Croatia game.”
Robin Goodchild, Senior General Manager of the London Eye, said: “The London Eye has celebration in its DNA so as the nation gets behind the Three Lions, we’re marking the moment in true London Eye style. Having an icon of the game, John Barnes, on top of an icon of London and our country, to cheer on England, felt like a brilliant way to kick things off and show our support ahead of the opener.
“We can’t wait to welcome guests into our ‘Singing for England’ pod experience, where the London A Cappella Collective will bring the matchday atmosphere to the sky with unforgettable views, unforgettable voices, and the biggest anthems of the tournament.”
The experience will take place on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Friday 26th June as England make their way through the group stage.
Guests interested in attending the Singing for England pod experience can purchase their London Eye tickets for one of the dates and register their interest at the London Eye VIP desk on the day.
