A pair of little creatives from Ilford have both taken the crown in Cake Box’s Little Bakers competition, which rewards the UK’s most imaginative young cake designers.
11-year-old Nathan and six-year-old Leah, siblings from Barkingside, made an impression with Nathan’s vibrant and fun cake packed full of reds and yellows, as well as Leah’s beautiful cupcake design inspired by nature. Their winning designs were then transformed into edible sweet treats by Cake Box’s team of expert bakers.
The competition ran across all of Cake Box’s 300 stores this summer and challenged youngsters to get creative and design the sweet treat of their wildest dreams. After which, local stores and the Cake Box head office team selected their favourites.
On being asked how it felt to have won, Nathan said: “I was so surprised that we won, and happy to share the moment with my little sister Leah, who was over the moon. Our family were so proud of us.”
Leah added, “Designing the cakes was so much fun, and something anyone can do if they believe in themselves.”
The winners and their family were invited to a special party at their local Cake Box store, where their designs were baked and presented by the team.

On the winning designs, Sukh Chamdal, founder and CEO of Cake Box, said:

“Every year, we’re blown away by the imagination and creativity of the young people who enter, and Nathan and Leah really brought that to life this year. Their designs were bursting with colour and personality, and you could see just how much fun they’d had creating them.
“At Cake Box, we’re all about making celebrations special, so seeing the smiles on their faces as their designs were turned into real cakes was such a lovely moment. That’s what it’s all about for us, bringing a little joy to people’s lives and encouraging the next generation to get creative. We hope Nathan and Leah inspire even more young people to have a go and see what they can dream up!”
