The Marie Curie Hampstead Hospice received a grant of £2000 to support the provision of care in its 21 bed unit for patients who are dying or need assistance with pain management and rehabilitation. The grant from London Masons and The Masonic Charitable Foundation as part of £15m which has been awarded though its dedicated hospice fund in core funding grants to hospices across England and Wales.
Marie Curie Hampstead Hospice has been providing expert palliative care to people in London since it first opened in 1948. The Hospice was the first of Marie Curie’s but is now one of nine located across the UK. Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end of life charity offering hands-on hospice and nursing care and a free support line. This in addition to providing a wealth of information and support on all aspects of living with a terminal illness, dying, death and bereavement
The Hospice is comprised of two wards, both with a capacity of 21 beds, providing services designed to maintain patients’ independence as well as making sure they are comfortable. There’s a focus on providing support for both patients and their families, whether that be emotional or advising on money, social benefits and services. This extends to family members being provided with a place to stay overnight at the Hospice with their loved ones. In addition to the services offered to patients, the Hospice also looks after their families and carers. A team of counsellors provides pre and post bereavement support (for adults and children), and social workers support families through this difficult time.
Marie Curie’s staff told us: “‘We would like to thank the Masonic Charitable Foundation for their generous donation and support for the work we do. Marie Curie relies on the donations made by the public, and with our collections halted during the pandemic, support is incredibly welcome. Every donation allows us to continue providing the care people with terminal illnesses and their families deserve.’.”

London Masons Charity Steward Tony Shields commented: “We are glad to provide urgent support to the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead, in these challenging times is good that London Masons can respond quickly to requests for assistance.”

“This grant follows on from a recent £2.5 Million to fund two ultra-high aerial platforms, 6 rapid response vehicles and 4 bariatric stretchers and earlier generous donations of £3 million to Bart’s hospital for the purchase of a Cyberknife and £2 million donation towards the second London Air Ambulance, all of which contribute to saving lives right across this great capital city.”
