A mum whose baby son’s life was saved by Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is set to take on the Saucony London 10k just one day before returning to the hospital for the next stage of his treatment.
Molly Gurr, 29, from Kings Langley in Hertfordshire, will run this Sunday’s iconic central London race in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, hoping to give back to the hospital that has cared for her son Rory since he was only a few hours old.
Rory was referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital when he was just five hours old and has remained under the specialist care of the hospital throughout the first 11 months of his life. During that time, he has undergone multiple surgeries, with GOSH helping guide the family through every stage of his treatment.
Molly says the hospital’s support has extended far beyond Rory’s medical care, helping both her and her partner navigate some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
The timing of the run holds particular significance for the family. Just one day after crossing the finish line of the Saucony London 10k, Molly and Rory will return to Great Ormond Street Hospital for the next stage of his surgery journey.
Molly said: “I’m taking part in this run because Great Ormond Street Hospital has been a huge part of mine, my partner’s and our little boy Rory’s lives since he was just five hours old.
“GOSH saved our little boy’s life. They gave him his stoma, and throughout every stage of his ongoing surgeries they have never left our side. We couldn’t ask for a more caring, supportive surgical team.
“They have supported not only Rory, but also me and my partner every step of the way.”

With another significant hospital appointment looming, Molly says running for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity feels especially meaningful.
She added: “The day after the Saucony London 10k we’ll be back at GOSH for the next stage of Rory’s surgery journey. It feels like such an honour to represent the hospital that has helped us raise our beautiful, happy little boy.”
The Saucony London 10k is one of the UK’s most popular road running events, taking participants on a closed-road route through the heart of the capital, passing landmarks including Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus and the London Eye. The event attracts thousands of runners each year, many taking part to raise money for charitable causes.
For Molly, however, the challenge represents far more than a race. Every mile will be a thank you to the hospital team that helped save Rory’s life and continues to support the family through every step of his treatment.
